I
am often perplexed when a worker says to me, "Nobody is
hiring," yet I just finished helping another injured worker
land a new job. I'm not sure what causes this discrepancy, but I do know that a
negative view of the labor market leads to a negative view of one's chances to succeed. "If the labor market's lousy," a worker says, "What makes me think that I can
really find a new career even with retraining?"
When
I hear a worker make such a statement, I help them focus on the only
thing they can control: their attitude about the situation. I
encourage them to be more positive. I have even created a this
section in my Website for that purpose.
Since
1984 I've
helped injured workers (and written two books), and I've
researched numerous ways to stay positive. Here are some of them.
